Project Close-up: Salvador Cabrales

Salvador Cabrales of Astilleros Cabrales, born in Phoenix AZ,  is a third generation boat builder and passionate about all things boat and Puerto Peñasco, the town he grew up in before moving back to Phoenix as a teenager. Salvador oversees the pleasure boat services for Astilleros Cabrales/Rocky Point Boatyard: scabrales@cabralescorp.com, 638/383 4500, website here.

This interview was filmed in September 2016. Since then Salvador has greatly improved the services for boaters and storage capacities: including a large storage lot only for cruising boats secured with high security fencing & power & water, a new paint booth and an air-conditioned cruisers lounge.

Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point as the Arizonians call it) is the best hurricane shelter in the Sea of Cortez at 31.32°N latitude and located at the Colorado River Delta and one hour south of the AZ-MX border (4 hours from Phoenix, 5 hours from San Diego). We have hauled out and stored our boat at Cabrales for the hurricane seasons/summers of 2016, 2017 and 2018.
